An Altar for Beltane

The season of Beltane, also known as May Day, marks the midway point between the Vernal Equinox and the Summer Solstice. This ancient holiday, which falls on May 1st, honors passion, fire, flowering, love, color, and all things sensual.

My Beltane altar is loaded up with early spring flowers from both mine and my mother’s garden: magenta geraniums that I overwintered in my studio, little yellow-centered Jonquils, and red tulips. A colorful painted rock, created by my friend and neighbor Cassie Morrissey, is there to remind me that everything deserves a splash of color! I’ve also included a little jar of local honey to honor all of the incredible pollinators that are responsible for bringing our local food sources into being!

This season, I’m celebrating radical self-love and exploring, through my artwork, what it means to truly thrive. This altar is a daily reminder to center my senses, my self-knowing, and COLOR in my work. Happy Beltane!
