Chaos and Control

I have great belief in the fact that whenever there is chaos, it creates wonderful thinking. I consider chaos a gift. - Septima Poinsette Clark

I’m 12 days into The 100 Day Project. It’s been very soothing to my nervous system to accompish a daily art task. Especially in this strange moment of global pandemic. The choas and unknowability of this moment can seem overwhelming at times, and this daily practice of creating a single black and white drawing is easing my sense of loss and confusion.

Thsese past few weeks have been oddly generative for me. I can’t help but turn to my art when things are difficult. It’s how I breathe, how I move through the tough times, and how I process what I’m thinking and feeling. The 100 Day Project has been a lovely container for that process.

I’m at the beginning of creating a new body of work about the our relationship to the natural world. Much of the work is inspired by Dr. Jennifer Atkinson’s research and teaching surrounding climate anxiety. The images I’m endeavoring to create, speak to the synchronicity and interconnectedness of all living things. These sketches are a way for me to begin collecting imagery for this journey. To see more of my sketches from the past week, find me on Instagram under the hashtag #sarahgreenman100days.
