Keeping it Real - Beauty 101
Don't you love when the glossy magazines highlight a celebrity's beauty routine in monthly columns called "What's on your vanity?" or "Beauty Secrets of the Starts?" The fancy lady lists some wildly expensive concoctions and you think, "Wow, 245 dollars for a face cream? Get real."
So that's what I'm doing today. I'm getting real about what's on my vanity, or as I like to call it, my "bathroom countertop". Here is the line up:
So that's what I'm doing today. I'm getting real about what's on my vanity, or as I like to call it, my "bathroom countertop". Here is the line up:
1. Frizz-Ease $5.99
This stuff is great for curly headed ladies like myself. I spray it on my damp clean hair after a shower and GO. It keeps the frizz at bay and doesn't make my hair all crispy and weird.
2. Smith's Rosebud Salve $6.00
I've had the same tin for 3 years, but I use it every day. This multi purpose goo is great on lips, on cuticles, on baby butts or for slicking loose hairs in your hair-do. It's an oldie but a goodie.
3. OPI Matte Nail Envy $8.95
This nail strengthener is the only nail polish I use. My nails look totally natural, but better. And they don't split or crack or peel. It is, quite simply, the bomb.
4. St. Ives Apricot Scrub $3.29
I've used this exfoliator since the early 90s and I love it. The original version was my go-to and then I got old and switched to the "Fresh Skin" version, which is a little easier on the skin.
5. Mad Hippie Face Cream $25.99
I've only been using Mad hippie products for a year and I'm sold. It's definitely a splurge for my little wallet, but I've had it for a year and I've still got half a bottle. Like I said, I'm getting older and my skin isn't as bouncy-teen-bop-awesome as it used to be. So I layer this light cream over the top of the Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum. (see number 6)
6. Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum $33.99
After I wash and exfoliate my face (see number 4), I spread a tiny amount of this serum over my face and neck. For me, it visible reduces redness and aging spots. It also tightens up my pores a bit. I know the price seems high, but I have had this bottle of a year and am not even 1/3 the way through the bottle. So I think its a good investment.
