House Projects and Leonard Cohen

Double post today! Its been a big week at my house. My mother is in town for the impending birth of my baby. And since I'm taking my sweet time, she is busying herself with all sorts of home improvement projects. She's not one to stand idle when there is an ugly color on the kitchen walls. She has been in town for exactly one week and in that time she has painted my kitchen, caulked my drippy kitchen sink, dry-walled and painted my sad entryway and removed an army of invasive ivy from my flower beds. You'll have to forgive me as I don't have a lot of "before" photos and I also didn't do any "styling" - that will come later. But here are some photos of her lovely handy work.

Again, I don't have a before photo, but here is the entry way - formerly covered with ripped wallpaper which covered the sin of unfinished cardboard walls. Now it is dry walled and covered in a lovely light gray paint. Both the kitchen and entry colors were hand mixed by my mom and me from left over paint I had stashed in my garage. I decided to showcase my two year old's paintings in the entry. They are a cheery, welcoming sight when you first come in the house. (And don't you dig the 1971 marble floor entry? That's my next project.)

I don't want you to think that I'm exploiting my mother and toddler son as slave decorating labor. I also had a project. I've just finished a painting for my living room. I've been listening to a lot of Leonard Cohen lately and "Bird on the Wire" is one of my favorite songs. Again, sorry for the funky photos - what can I say? I'm super pregnant and impatient these days, which results in quick work and fuzzy photos.

I love this live version of "Bird on the Wire" by Leonard done in 2008.
