Pleasure, Grief, and Intimacy of the Human Experience

Yusef Seevers is back for a second time on the Collaborative Alchemy Podcast! Yusef is an actor, musician, dancer, choreographer, and creative entrepreneur. Our first conversation in December of 2020 was about radical self-love, Black joy, and the healing power of meditation. In this episode, we talk about the importance of foregrounding pleasure as a means of befriending our more difficult emotions. We talk about the why and how of creative process as a way to develop a personal vocabulary our experience of grief. Yusef also asks some big questions about how to normalize emotional intelligence training and somatic practice for kids. Join us for this enlivening conversation as we discuss grief, parental loss, and what happens when our sense of balance is rocked.

Yusef Seevers (he/they) is a Black Queer Detroit native and a west coast lover. He has worked as a resident artist (teaching movement and acting) in California for the last 5 years following his M.F.A. in Acting from Southern Methodist University. He also holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from Santa Fe University and continues to work in wellness and community entrepreneurialism.  

What is most exciting is his work on Body Awareness and Emotional Intelligence (B.A.E.I.) and the development of a pedagogy that will be utilized in schools and organizations to help youth and families better understand their human nature, resilience, and capacity for joy. Over the next ten years he will be bringing this program all over the country and to international school systems, fine tuning and offering this unique outlook on wellbeing.  

He’s worked professionally in West African Dance for the last 20 years and truly enjoys teaching and inspiring. He teaches Movement and Acting at youth shelters and to at-risk communities all over the country, especially in this virtual teaching revolution.
